Life Skills

Life Skills are an integral part of the TLBB world and can be an extremely useful means of making money.

To learn a Life Skill you must first visit the NPC appropriate to the skill you wish to learn. Some skills have a minimum level requirement, and can only be learnt by high level players, but Life Skills such as Fishing can be learnt from as low as level 10.

To find the NPC for the Life Skill you want to learn, open the Auto Path function in any one of the three main cities.

On speaking to the appropriate NPC you will be given the option to study the skill. If you meet the minimum level requirements and can afford the fee, you will learn the skill and it will appear in the Life Skills menu.

Gathering Skills

Gathering Skills include Mining, Herbalism and Fishing. To perform these skills you will need to be in possession of the relevant tool. For mining, you will need a Pickaxe; for Herbalism you will need a Sickle; and for Fishing you will need a Fishing Pole.

With Gathering Skills, different types of minerals, plants and fish are available at different levels. You will need to find the right location in order to practise your skill until you reach a higher level. Depending on where you are on the World Map, and your skill level, some resources will be available to you, and some won’t.

Processing Skills

There are many different types of Processing Skill available to players of varying levels and include examples such as Cooking, Casting and Refining.

The simplest of these skills is Cooking which is available from very early on in the game and can be learnt as part of the Novice Quests.

Processing Skills generally require the player to have learnt the relevant recipe or plan in order to process their items, and will also often require a player to be within a certain distance of, for instance, a Pharmacy Stove, or a Casting Bench.

In the example of Cooking however, players may practise their skill anywhere.

Hint: Practising skills consumes Vigour. To reduce your Vigour consumption when Cooking, players above level 30 may visit Rose Wei [131, 152] in Luo Yang to learn the Regimen Skill.

Levelling-Up

To level-up a Life Skill players must visit the Master of the skill they would like to level-up and should choose the option to upgrade their skill.

Cooking Master

You may find Skill Masters in any one of the three main cities in TLBB

Levelling-up a skill requires three things: gold, proficiency, and XP:

  • Firstly, a player must be able to afford the cost of levelling up.
  • Secondly, a player must have achieved sufficient proficiency in the skill in order to progress to the next level. Your proficiency rating can be found by clicking on the skill in the Life Skills tab of the Skills menu (Alt+S).
  • Finally, a player must expend XP from their XP bar to pay for the level-up.

Providing a player can meet these three requirements, they are able to level up their Life Skill.

To upgrade a Life Skill beyond level 5, players should join a Guild, and speak to the appropriate Guild NPC.
