Beggars’ Alliance
After years spent as martial arts outcasts, with the dawn of the Song dynasty the Beggars’ Alliance was at long last able to establish itself as a school of Kung Fu in its own right. Following the revolution in the Chinese cast system, the Alliance has grown rapidly, and its members are right to consider themselves one of the most powerful classes in the world.
Though some might call them unorthodox in their approach, there is a strong bond between members of the Beggars’ Alliance. They firmly believe that they have ‘run the gauntlet’ of human experience and as such at the heart of their belief system is the idea that they must act as one. With their emphasis on loyalty and morality, they set a fine example as heroes of the age.
‘When you see a worthy person, endeavour to emulate him. When you see an unworthy person, then examine your inner self.’
Beggars’ Alliance Philosophy
Outcasts of ‘normal’ society, members of the Beggars’ Alliance rely heavily on themselves and live in loneliness like the wolves they often use to travel over long distances.
At the heart of their philosophy the Beggars’ Alliance believe in living a life of simplicity through austerity, while focusing themselves on the perfection of human physical abilities. They do not aspire to wealth or status, as they see such things as ‘un-purposeful’ in their quest to focus on what they regard as the truly important things in life.
The Beggars’ Alliance
An area of natural grassland connects the northern part of Reed Port to the small island of land that the Beggars’ Alliance has taken as its home. It is a heavily guarded fortress defended on all sides from attack by vast swirling oceans to the east and treacherous mountains to the west.
Class Characteristics
The love of drink is as natural to members of the Beggars’ Alliance as the sky is natural to a bird. Members of the Alliance love to brew almost as much as they love to drink, and so the majority of members know brewing technology, or ‘Brewage’. The Brewage skill allows Beggars to brew drinks that have all manner of useful effects – in some cases even allowing Alliance members to tone up their body.
Combat Characteristics
Heavily reliant on their physical abilities the Beggars’ Alliance adepts will not hesitate to use venomous snake and insect poisons to get an edge over their unsuspecting foes.
Warriors of the Beggars’ Alliance are by definition, melee specialists. Their warriors specialize in physical attacks, with an emphasis on building up huge combos which increase the strength of their attacks. Their warriors also have very good reflexes and they can often deflect an enemy’s strike swiftly. Because they are associated with snakes and insects, in some instances, their strikes may be poisonous.
